If you are keen on my instruments I can recommend checking
out the band Neptune from Boston. My work is more focused on putting odd sounds
in a logical workable system than theirs. The sounds they create however are
pretty close to the sounds of my moodswinger and other instruments. They mainly
make very cool Mad Max alike looking instruments and afterwards learn how to
play on it. Though they are aware of the Microtonal Art of Harry
Partch, they donÕt incorporate the physical laws of consonance very
much into their work and itÕs not their intention to create consonant perfect
sound, but create new sound out of an intuitive playing technique. Noisy tribal
rythmic music is the result, matching with the looks of their instruments.
The bariton guitars IÕve seen are made from VCR casings and
are employed with a 3rd Bridge movable
drumstick, which allows them to play the strings at the short side as well as
on the other side, where there is no pickup. Quiet similar to how Pat Noecker has prepared his bass guitar.
An in depth clarification about this playing technique can be found in Chapter 2 Š Prepared
Guitar Techniques, 2.1 Third Bridge. They also make synths and
electric thumb pianoÕs.
Their last album Gong Lake appeared on Rhys ChathamÕs Table of the Elements
label. Chatham had a very good explanation about their art. He told me Neptune
is the only true heavy metal band. Their instruments are made of metal and are
really heavy to carry.
Neptune is a band from Boston, Mass. that began in 1996 as a sculpture project. All instruments are/were sculpted from scrap steel by Jason. Neptune plays large menacing instruments that have evident histories as saw blades, bike parts, oil drums, and etcetera. Neptune plays loud noisy art-punk that you can almost dance to.
Neptune is
Jason Sanford, Mark William Pearson, John Douglas Manson, and Daniel Paul
Boucher.
